Workmate

I put wheels on my workmate to make it mobile and added a larger working surface. I used some old Table Leafs I had laying around.

Some work-mates have legs that fold inward, for a lower working height.

Yes Lorrie, I can see where it might be at an uncomfortable height, if I were to use large castors.  I did a simular set up on my table saw and I used some small diameter casters but for this application I think they will be too light weight.....so, I will just have to look around and see what my options are. Thank you so much for your help.

Harold,  one thing to consider is the height of the wheels.  I built the platform for the bottom and I had put some larger locking wheels on it the first time and the surface was too tall.  it wasn't a comfortable height for me to work.  I took those wheels off and put the smaller wheels on it.  It was a much better height.  I did inset the wheels to make it work for me.  Just something to think about. :)

I think I will just use locking wheels on just the front of mine.I  really like the idea of having them on wheels. I'm 65 and I don't like to have to drag everything around much.  Almost everything in my shop is on wheels.  I don't know why I never thought about those workmates, and having a larger work surface will be nice as well. Thanks Lorrie.

Hi Harold,

I didn't have any locking casters at the time.  I just used wheels that I had.  they are not locking.  I think you should use the locking wheels.  I haven't had any problems with it, but it does move on me sometimes.  If I am working on something and I need to make sure it doesn't move, I will use my workbench.  I have locking wheels on that and it doesn't move when I don't want it to.  I was using scraps of wood and things I had laying around.

Lorrie, did you use locking castors on all four corners of the base?

Hi Harold,

glad I could help you out. :)  I use this all of the time now that I have a larger work surface on it and I can easily move it around in my garage.  You will love it. :)

Lorrie, what a great idea.  I have two of these that are old and don't function very well anymore, so now I know what to do with them.  Thanks for sharing your idea.

Hi Rita,

Thanks for the nice comments.  Yes, I'm still trying to get the garage organized to become a workshop.  At least you have already made a very nice table.  I haven't tried to make anything for the inside of the house yet.  You are ahead of me in that regard plus you have used your table saw.  I haven't used mine yet.  That is next on my bucketlist! LOL  :)  Have a great day!

Hi Lorrie!   Your repurposing project is a win!  Creative way to use things on hand that cost only your time but will be a valued piece in your workshop.   First the lumber storage to the workbench and now the multitasking table,  your shop is coming together great!  You are gaining on me LOL!
