Lonno sorry to be late in answering your inquiry.  Thank you for a nice comment on my work and I indeed will be honored to be a friend to you and look forward to helping you along with your wood work. You will find several very nice members here whom have a vass amount of knowledge and always willing to to answer questions as well. 

To answer your question on the chop saw cut,  That is known as tear out and happens for several reasons.  One is the blade that you are using as you should be using a blade with somewhere between 60 and 80 teeth on a 10" saw.  The tooth configurations should be a  finish blade.  The saw may have the throat being wide and thus not giving the wood support for the wood grains and as a result they are being forced outward down through the open throat and are jagged from actually being pushed out from the wood stock and broken off rather that cut.  Depending on the saw your are using you might be able to make a throat plate filler that will fit the kerf of your blade and closing the throat plate gap. 

It is of great imprtance that you have a sharp blade and that you do not force the blade through the stock and allow the blade to cut rather than plow out the kerf.

Jay, Your work is indeed superior. I like your workmanship and I like the helpful comments that I see you make to other builders (especially those of us new to Kreg and woodworking). Quick question unrelated to your work here...Can you tell me why my chop saw would rip the underside of the pieces of wood that I cut. The top cut is pretty, smooth, and no ripped pieces. BUT the underside is ridiculous. Help!...Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question.

Stephanie. thank  you for all the nice complements on my work. I have viewed your project photos and  everyone of them  show alot of planning and execution of your work.  You are well on the way to being a master yourself.  It takes alot of designing and planning to do what you have done and you do it well.  Every one of your projects is full of talent and shows a skill level superior to that of a  beginning woodworker.  It is great to see you excell in bigger and more challenging projects.  The deck furniture set you just finished is one that you could very easily market as it shows some very nice work that looks like they belong together.  Anyone would be proud to own this set of furniture for their deck.  Again Thank You for the nice complements.  Wishing you the best in your woodworking future.
