The mesh ones are each built around 3 medium sized plant pots that were on offer at a local hardware store. I can't remember the dimensions of those but it has to depend on the plant pots.

The larger one is 1100mm by 400mm by 400mm high. The dimensions of the base panel (and hence the internal dimensions) are 1000mm by 300mm — dictated by the most economical use of the fence palings. The lining is polythene, we just happen to have a large roll of it that was left over after some building work. My wife wants to grow herbs in the planter and I didn't like the idea of H2.3 treated wood right next to plants we're going to eat. She's happy with the size so that's the main thing. ;-)

Later I'll add some taller, squarer ones to go by the front door.

That looks great!!  i have been thinking about makeing some but am not to sure what size i should make them.  yours look like a nice size.  what are the dimensions of yours? also what do you have on the inside of it to make it water proof?
