I built this night stand with lumber reclaimed from an antique school desk. The desk was in rough shape, but I re-used the legs and cut up the top and shelf and used them to make the drawer and apron. I used the original mortises in the legs, and plugged the lower mortises with scrap from the old supports. The top is finger jointed pine glued on edge and planed to 1 1/4". The drawer face frame uses pocket screws to fasten to the legs beacause the legs never had a cross piece, so there was no mortise on this face (it was a desk, so no apron on the front). Stain is Minwax Jacobean and like most of my projects, I was not entirely happy with the finish. I gave myself a pass on this one though because I have no idea what species the old desk was. Overall I am very happy with it and am planning on building another night stand to compliment it. (Actually my wife is jealous, so she wants one on her side, with some upgrades of course)
