I Designed and created this planter box/magazine rack and built it using the Kreg Jig. I made it to look like my dog Pebbles. What do you think?? The head moves right and left and the tail moves up and down on a spring. You can also reposition the ears.

Hi Jim,
Thanks so much! I enjoyed making it. I really enjoy the outcome! You just never know what you can do until you try. This wasn't something that I thought I could make, but I did it. That is why I want to share it with the members of this community. Thanks for your nice comment! :)
Hi Lorrie , very nice planter / mag. rack , great design with movable head and tail !! Very good finish and it dose look like Pebbles, well done , thanks for sharing your project with the members , JIM !!
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your nice comment! I know this is not your normal Kreg Jig project. LOL I used the pocket hole joinery to attach the parts together and then I plugged the holes on the legs and painted them so they are not so noticeable. It was really fun seeing it coming together! :)
Hi Jay,
Thanks! Wow, that is quite a compliment! :) I really had fun creating it. It was quite a challenge for me to make the head move back and forth. I perused the big box stores looking for some hardware that would do what I wanted but didn't stand out. I couldn't find anything. At that point, I decided that I would have to make something. I had a U bracket in mind and it took a couple of tries to get it to the correct depth for the clearance to move right and left. I had already cut out the neck and so I used that as a reference for making the bracket. I think it turned out pretty nice. Then I had to find a bolt long enough to insert into the bracket and neck. It did make me smile when it actually worked!!! LOL I am not very good with the painting but I just went for it and I surprised myself as it turned out better than I anticipated!!! I took it to one of the big box stores to find some plants for it and as I was walking thru the store, I was stopped several times by people who really liked it. A few people wanted to take pictures of it and one person had someone take her picture with it!!! One lady said that it made her want to pet it!! LOL It did make me feel really good to get such a good response from people and gives me confidence that they may sell should I decide to make some. :) Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment and it does give me confidence with each project that I can actually make something if I put my mind to it. :)
Hi Rita,
Thanks so much! I'm happy that you liked my project!! I have also missed being around the site. I started this project I think in February. I had cut it out with paper and taped one together to get a general idea of what I wanted. My dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and only had a short time left. I wanted to spend my time with my dad. I tried to work on it here and there so that I can show my dad but I wanted to spend time with him. He passed away on 6/28. It was months before I could get back out in the garage. I just wish that he could see it. I think he would be proud of it. :) Needless to say, this took me quite a while to finish. I'm doing a little better and I do hope to start working back out in the garage again when I can. Thanks for your support!!!! I will checking in to see what you have been up to!!! I have some catching up to do with you!!! LOL
Hi Al,
Glad you like it. I wanted to incorporate some moving parts. I had no idea what I was doing. I was playing around with the ears and decided not to glue them in place. that way, I could change her expression. LOL I also wanted her tail to wag! LOL
Hi Mick,
Thanks so much for the nice comment. I think it turned out pretty cute and it will always remind me of my beloved Pebbles!! :)
Lorrie,
Very nicely done.
Hi Lorrie, This is one nice project and especially one of which I like as like you I am a dog owner and do really appreciate anything to do with the life of a dog and its "being". You are right it does look like Pebbles and is something that I am certain could become a strong selling point should you decide to market these. What dog owner wouldn't want to have something that looks like their dog but also be a planter box or a magazine rack and for that matter a countless number of storage or containers for keeping items organized and safe. It is one thing to see such an item with moveable parts as most anything else that I have seen is a stationary one look item of which one pose is what you get.
Something that I really appreciate is the builder's own design is used here and is not something that is built from a plan of some others design. This insures that it is a "one of a kind" and does show a lot of your own creative imagination which is a definite plus in my mind as it does show your ability to problem solve and create what you need in order to build such a piece.
This is a fine example of creative woodworking and coupled with skill and attention to small details like the dog collar and tongue. I really like the expression that the face gives as it poses a life like as well as a comic rendition of you dog. Thanks for posting and it is great to see you back on here with a project.
Hey Lorrie!!!! So good to see you back here and back to your creations!!!! Love the expressive face and you captured Pebbles perfectly. Very cute and fun design kicked up a notch with the movable parts. I hope this means that you are back to kicking around in the shop and I hope to see more of you around here. You have been missed!

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
