Plugins for Sketchup can dramatically extend its value for woodworkers.  Be sure to check out this link which introduces Cutlist 4.1.4.  Building on the foundation of components, Cutlist provides optimized layout diagrams and component cut lists.  The key to it's use are component modules which are introduced in the tutorial.    Cutlist 4.1.4 for Google Sketchup

The measurements is a case by case basis unless it is a freestanding, cookie cutter unit (always the same). Thanks again for your kind words Hazen.

I have been getting more and more in depth with Sketchup. You can read my blog report. It has a video by a finish carpenter, Gary M. Katz. This was the easiest and most direct video I found for what we as cabinetmakers do.

More Kudos! Very nice stuff. How specific are you getting with Sketchup? I downloaded it and the tutorials a few weeks back and haven't had time to play with it. I realize this is a "duhhh" question, but are you taking specific measurements of your particular rooms as well as specific cabinet sizes (in ref. to your kitchen cabinets for example) In know Sketchup does allow us to get pretty darn specific. Thanks and again, beautiful work man!

Thanks for that. Just to let you know the link you have for Gary Katz - charts and drawings doesn't work. However I just punched in his website and found him there. Thank you.

Look no further. This is my blog report on what I have discovered about Google Sketchup and learning it for my own use.

Very nice stuff. I going to look into learning the Google Sketchup for sure. Looks like its almost essential for complex projects like these. They look great!

I use Google Sketchup. It's simple, it's easy and I only need the free version at this time.
