2x4 Work Bench

What started as the simple 2x4 work bench from the Kreg plans morphed into something more. I plan to mount a router in the larger fold out table on the side opposite from the Kreg Jig

I added pics of the router set up on the 1st page.

I finally was able to get my plunge router mounted in the table opposite from the Kreg Jig table.  I used it to route base molding and crown molding for a bookshelf (modified from the Kreg plans) I'm working on and it worked like a champ!

Thanks so much for the photos.  They definitely do help me see how you installed them!  I just got back from buying some 2x4's.  I'm anxious to get started on the project.  I will have to build the workbench in phases.  I'm not working right now and money is tight.  I will build the main workbench portion and add the fold out tables later.  I may incorporate some of the old workbench as well.  I will have to work it out in my head (and on paper!).  Thanks again! :)

Here are a couple of close up pics of how the rods are installed.  Hope it helps:

Sure thing.  That was exactly my thought with this table, maximum capability and versatility while taking up a minimal amount of space when I'm not using it.  If you need any more info or pics just let me know....glad to help.

Thanks so much Dustin!  The Diagram and the additional pictures really help.  I am a beginner woodworker and it is just me in the shop.  I understand it better when I can see pictures.  I am going to try to build this.  I really appreciate your help and your posting of this workbench.  I need something portable so I can move it out in the middle of the garage to work and when I'm done, roll it back against the wall out of the way.  Good job figuring out how the supports work.  I'm thinking that is where I might run into some problems.  Again, thanks for your help and design!  Lorrie

When I was putting together the side tables I installed the rods and hinged the tables first.  Then I supported them folded out and perfectly level using my garage floor jack and a scrap piece of 2x4.  Then I marked the length and hole locations on the aluminum bar for the supports.

Here are a few more pics of the side table supports:

Here you go Lorrie.  I noted the overall dimensions, so you'll need to subtract 3/4" for the edgebanding on all sides of the tables to get actual MDF sheet dimensions.  Like I mentioned, you will probably want to make it closer to the overall height of the Kreg plans (they show 35 1/2" versus 38 1/2" for mine) because mine came out a little on the tall side for assembling large pieces on the main table.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
