Thanks for the kind words, Michael. I really like that style, too. I am hoping to find a need around my house for a few more mission style pieces in the near future!

Absolutely Beautiful. I love the mission/arts and crafts look. Congratulations.

Hi John,
Thanks for the compliment. The wood is white oak which has been "quarter sawn" It takes more care and results in more waste, but produces a really nice piece of lumber. Quarter sawn lumber is more dimensionally stable, so it makes great table tops, etc. And some trees produce quarter sawn boards that have the figure or "fire" that you can see in the drawer fronts.
I have a place about an hour away called The Hardwood Store, which is a very large warehouse with a huge inventory of lumber. They let their customers sort through and pick out the lumber they want. I have found some really beautiful boards, digging down into the stacks.
I do pay more for quarter sawn wood, but I am of the belief that when I spend as much time as it takes to build something, I want to use the best materials. So, their really nice clear white oak boards are about $2.95 a board foot, and the quarter sawn is about $4.90.
I know it is not practical to ship lumber across the country, and western species are different from what we have in the east. One thing I have done in the past is check with custom cabinet makers who are able to buy wholesale and see if you can order some lumber in with theirs. Also, our local Woodcraft store keeps a small inventory of hardwoods, if you have one of their stores nearby. I hope you are successful finding some nice wood for your next project.

HI William,

What material did you use to make these two beautiful items? And where were you able to purchase it? Where I live there isn't much in the way of wood selection.

Absolutely - his and hers chests of drawers. My wife wasn't going to let me get away with making only one!
