Sounds like a good project, Sparkie, one resource I have found is Stewart McDonald, who sell all kinds of stuff for instrument building, including kits. (might be who you are looking at for a kit) They do have some finish products that would be superior to what I used. I don't have a spray rig, but sprayed lacquer seems to be a good finish.

We're off on vacation for the holidays - hope you have a great Christmas!!

I am looking at buy a mandolin kit. I have never built from a kit before but I think it would be much easier that trying to do it all at this point. My biggest concern is finishing it. Do you have any tips on that part of the process. I have a 1967 Epiphone Texan Guitar and it starting to have very fine line cracks in the finish but I know that is part of the aging process. I guess I'll do more research on the internet and see what I can find.

I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Have a great Christmas and Holiday Season.

Hi Sparkie,

I actually found a one sheet plan doing a google image search for ukuleles. It was a pdf file, which took some doing to print out, cause the sheet was about 2 ft by 3 ft and I had to print it in single sheet pieces and tape them together. The measurements were all in metric, which also made it interesting. This is a small uke - just over 20 inches long.

I built a few instruments about 35 years ago - a couple dulcimers, a banjo and a mandolin, but hadn't tried any instruments since. I might try another ukulele soon to apply some of the lessons I learned with this one. Thanks for the comment!

Hello William,

Did you build this from plans you purchased or did you already have an idea of what you wanted to do. Also How large is this Ukulele, Small, Medium or Larger. It looks great.
