This is a sign I woodburned for my niece's dog grooming shop. They made it to five years in business, so this is her gift to her boss.

Why do I show you this sign? Well, basically it's because of the woodburning, but also because I used a long oak plank, cut it in half, and used the Kreg Jig to make pocket holes so I could join the two planks side by side and get the wider board you see now. It worked so well that after sanding, you can't tell where the seam is located unless you look REALLY close.

The frame was made with scrap beadboard strips from my hope chest project and stained with Jacobean stain. I stained the oak with Ipswitch Pine stain, so the frame matched the woodburning.

Again, this was an idea of mine on the fly. I think it turned out rather well.

I think thats a cool gift.  Did you hand carve out the figures and letters prior to the woodburning?  I'm curious about the procedure.

Like you, I also used pocket holes to join boards in my night stand project.  It worked great, required minimal sanding and eliminated leaving the boards clamped overnight.

Good Job, Don

Little correction here: I guess this sign was to commemorate only ONE year in business, but it's still cool nonetheless. Becky tells me I'm getting a bunch of compliments on it from their customers.
