These were placed between the joist so we could lay the deck boards the same way as the original ones.

Thanks! Sorry for not making the "support" details more noticeable. You are not the first one to point that out. Will try to do a better job when posting pics next time:-)

After going back and looking I did see a hanger peaking out in one of the photos. Nice Job ! As far as pocket holes you created a much stronger support by not toenailing.

Also, Way to go the extra mile to get the little details just right,

great job,
Robert

My Dearest Code Concerned People,
I just want to let you all know that we did use joist hangers at each end of the support joists. These boards that have the pocket holes in them are just so we could lay the decking boards parallel with the floor joists to keep in style with the home. What would be the difference in toe-nailing the boards together vs using the pocket holes? I assumed that as long as the directions were followed as far as the size of the wood and screw used when using the Kreg Jig System, the pocket jig would put the hole in the middle of the wood every time, thus making the joint stronger than being toe-nailed together( I also know what they say about assumers too -lol). If you look at all of the pictures closely, you will see that there are joist hangers running perpendicular to our house. I researched how much weight the different size boards could withstand and the maximum length they could be. Trust me, I fell through the porch once because of the " minimum code " that was allowed for the house to be sold to us. I will not fall through the part of the porch we have completed because it is more than code expects.
Thanks for your concern:-)

I am a big fan of the Pocket Hole, however in this application I think I would have used a Simpson Joist Hanger, quicker and stronger, in VA that would not pass building code, unfortunately. It was quite the project you took on, and the results were Great, so good job.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
