I kreg jigged two long pieces of plywood to a 5 inch piece in the middle. I couldn't get a 11 foot sheet of red oak so my fix ended up decorative.

98% of this project is plywood. 3/4" red oak. Now it wasn't $15 sheets from home depot, it was $50 4x8 sheets and it took me 6 sheets. The only solid wood I used was for the lip around the top. I used a lot of red oak edge band as well.

Cabinets and top look great. Neat idea on joining the two pieces together too. How much is made out of plywood with and oak veneer and how much is made out of solid lumber?

I think this is a really cool solution for the top. I'll definitely have to keep this in mind. It's not very often I build anything this long, but when it comes up I'll know how to handle it. Thanks for the pictures.
