Thanks, Leslee - I have that magazine issue also. My dad and I drew up the plans for this buffet and so the final details were a little fuzzy. I think I'll try the Woodsmith style with scrap to see how it looks, then with the hickory if I like it. Stay tuned!
Joan, I saw on woodsmith shop on PBS. You could go online and look up woodsmith.com. It is a woodworking magazine on there they made an wine rack that slid into the back of an wine cabinet. They used notched wood pieces that went together and made the holes for the wine bottles. It was on season 6 or one of the earlier ones. Hope this could help.
Interesting concept, Leslee. That would certainly maximize the space! I think i'll be sticking with hickory, though, as this section will be open to view. I can see where that would be a good option for a larger wine storage area, like in a wine cellar. Thanks for the idea!
How about PVC tubes for the wine bottles. I saw that style on DIY awhile back. I thought it looked kinda cool.
Thanks, James - gotta figure out the design for the wine storage...criss-cross or square? Shelves with cleats or open spacers?
Great job, let's have a toast....errrr, where's the wine? :)
Thank you, Jay and Lorrie. The top is not finished, still need to size and trim the edges and I plan to put a "back-splash" of some kind on it as well. I got my first pieces of hickory through an auction and it has become a favorite wood species to work with - the grain is beautiful and diverse and gorgous when finished. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of the "calico" look, however, and was careful in placement of the blond grain although that was more difficult to segregate in the 1/4" ply used in the doors and side panels. Thanks again!
Another outstanding piece of work! I like it.
Joan, this is beautiful work. Love the arched bottom skirt and the even spaced storage compartments.
The three drawers go well with the storage below. The square legs and the square top give this a "Shaker or Mission" flavor. How do you like working hickory? It is one of my favorite woods to build with. The beautiful grains in the hickory are hard to beat. I will be anxious to see the finished piece.
Thanks for sharing this.

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
