Well Thank You James, that is a very nice complement and I do appreciate it.  I have been in this game a long time and learned a lot striving to learn something from everybody.  I have seen many projects on here that are excellent examples as there are a lot of very good craftsman on here.

Something that stands out in your comment that I like is, your attitude about building your own projects.  I can tell you from experience that you will learn more and become a better craftsman by designing and building your own projects than from copying someone else.   There is just something about a project that in some way or another takes on the image of the maker and it becomes his or her trademark.  It is also satisfying to be able to take pride in a project that you have built and designed your self and know with out doubt that your project if entirely your own and that there will be no other exactly the same on the face of the earth. I can tell you with certainity that in all the years I have been building that I have never once built two projects exactly alike.  There is a  logo I sign my name on each project.  It reads:  "certified to be one of a kind".  Some may look similiar but I assure you there is something different in each. That is just something about your work if you want it to be truly, "Custom".

It is fine to get ideas from another's project and maybe even some of the method of building but in some fashion or another, honor the others build and  try to give it your own touch.

Another thing I have notice about you is that you are a gentleman and always thank others and are appreciative of others projects and information.  As hard as it may be to say I can not honestly say this about some.  To often i see the  comment, "you got plans" and there is often never a "Please" or "thank you".

I have visited your page many times and noted the nice comments you make about others projects but also what does not go un-noticed is that your are always thankful to others and express your appreciative nature in a way that is un-mistaken.  To me this is also being a craftsman.  If you are appreciative to your fellowman then you are appreciative of the wood you work and the tools you use, therefore your talents will surely grow.

Yes I do like to help others learn if there is something I can teach and would do so at any time.  Before I go I will tell you that I like many of your projects that you have posted and always look forward to seeing more.  I see lots of talent in each of your posted projects and know that you will rapidly excell in your work because you have the attitude, the skill and desire to be a woodworker.

James Wilhelm, I left a comment on your wall page.

James it was not you it was something to do with the software of this site as it appeared almost immediately after I added the post.  This was late my time and definately late hours where you live.  I just wanted to be sure you received my messages about your bench and my reply about being a craftsman.  As long as you received my messages I am totally happy about that as you deserved them.

Thanks for the welcome - my husband and I are in process of our very first build and we'll be sure to post when finished!

  • Misha

Thanks for the welcome. I am not sure what to start with. I need a wooden bookcase with doors. I've read that in order to use Kreg joinery all pieces of wood should have straight edges and angles should be right; so I decided to buy all the boards that are cut to specific sizes I need. But prior to the bookcase I think it is better to build something easier, e.x. a bench.

Always a treat to get a friend in wood world.

Thank you for the welcome.  I am in the process of spinning up my new workshop in between honey-dos.  My first project with my Kreg Jig looks like it will be support benches for my 108" counter top that is being re-purposed as a tool bench and storage shelf.  So hope to make some saw dust in a week or two...  Cheers!

thanks for the information on the Kreg bit.  I wish I had a spare at the time.  I was 5 pocket holes away from finishing my project.  I am new to woodworking and got the Kreg Jig K4. I LOVE IT!  I have gone Jig happy wanting to build things.  I am also new to posting comments.  I will try to post a picture of my cabinet I built for the garage.  I built 2 of them because I liked the first one so much and it really holds a lot of stuff.  Thanks for the welcome to the community.

Hi  James         Thanks for your  comment,

I made  this from scratch  , I never use  plans / Mainly just from a  picture ive  seen or actual see  items some where.

I  make mostly furniture , small table ,benches , step  stools, shelves ,night  stands, which I sell in  a  craft mall.   I  use  a lot of  recycled material.

Keep me  pretty  busy since  retirement. Realy  enjoy this work.

Kreg jig was my  best investment in  a long  time.

    Thanks  again   Cecil

Hi, Jim. I saw your wine glass rack. I think it looks great, I like the wine bottle rack with the arches. That was different for a wine rack. They are usually square and not really an eye catcher like yours. Keep making sawdust.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion Jim, and yes,  I am a hard worker LOL!  This past weekend I was helping family with a house rehab they are taking on.  I can remove "use a hammer drill" off my bucket list!  Removing a fireplace and hauling brick.  I swear each wheelbarrow load weighed 300lbs!  At least it sure felt like it by the end of the day!  I know they would help me with the garage but they sure have their hands full right now.   I think the light weight insulation for the ceiling will be the way to go.  I once used some to make a headboard, cut it to the shape I wanted and covered it with quilt matting and fabric.  It was a inexpensive and easy material to work with and I could change the fabric to change décor when needed.  My goal for this year will be to close off the space, if only with a temporary fix, perhaps running two heaters that will allow me to tinker on a weekend afternoon.  Hate dark cold days of winter but being a snowbird is not doable :)
