I don't have the ability to make a dado cut so it would be all butt joints. I was thinking of counter sinking some screws straight in from the bottom into the vertical pieces. Maybe the top as well depending on the finish. I *can* use glue. When people talk about gluing pocket joints do they put glue along the whole edge where the two pieces of wood join or in the pocket holes themselves to hold the screws in?

are you going to use all butt joints? Are you going to dado the inner panels? are you using glue with the pocket holes? To answer your basic question, it will remain square with pocket holes.

I use to make a lot of pine shelves sort of the country style and I painted them so this sealed the wood so it never warped.

Good Morning Jesse;

You can build this and it would be stable with the Kreg pocket holes, a couple of things that will help. Normally we say you do not need glue unless it is something you are moving like a chair etc, some of use glue all the times use glue and the screws. It is very important to get your cuts square. If you are painting this you can put screws on both sides then glue in plugs cut and sand smooth to the surface then paint. If you stain it can look like a feature. Another thing is to use the right screws for the material coarse threads for plywood. Im not sure how stable it would be if you use particleboard or MDF but if it is not taking a lot of weight heavy books it should be all right.
