I am going to build large planter boxes for our yard. I am planing on using 1 inch cedar boards anr 2x2 inch corners posts. I need to know what thread pitch and driver detting to use.

Use coarse threads.  I set my Milwaukee driver on Low 5 and it drove no problem.  The patio cart of which I just posted a couple pictures is made of cedar and has pocket screws in the 2/4's.  I used 2-1/2 inch screws, but you'll need smaller if they're going into the one inch board.

On cedar I would be inclined to go coarse thread. Driver setting, start about 1/3 of the way up the scale and increase a notch or two at a time until the joint pulls tight. Best I can do there on the info you gave.

I would recommend stainless screws though.

I use regular screws  if they are not seen by eye ball just  putty them up so no moisture gets to them ,If you do that body putty will work for you just fine
