Workbench design for limited space - width, height and length

Now located in a one-car garage, and with the 'real' workshop at the farm taking up a whole single-car garage, I'm faced with having to design and build a workbench big enough to use, but small or narrow enough for wifey's car when she's home. The length will be about 1,650mm -1,800mm but width is limited.

1 What's the narrowest workable width taking account of a Groz bench vise?

2 Should the bench vise go on one end instead of the front - to use with bench dogs and build a front vice ala Moxon that will take up less width?

3 What's the minimum thickness of the top (Cypress Pine floorboards over plywood) for bench dogs and bench clamps?

4 How to use with trolley wheels/castors to move it around the workshop and push it to one corner for wifey's car, but lockable or collapsable when in use?

Hi Graham, sorry you were missed here.  Because this thread is so old I am wondering what you did to fix your small garage space needs?  We have a single car garage too and we don't park a car in it because it's too short to park one, except our little MGB.  It's pretty full with rolling workbenches and panel saw along with storage of all other wood working needs.  We roll the workbenches outside the garage for cutting, sanding and most painting.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
