Hi everyone, I'm new to woodworking and will be building the basic work bench. This is  the one in kreg projects plans. I would like to make it 8 feet long instead of the 4. Would I have to do  anything other then makeing the long rails and top 8 foot long? Thanks

I would add in a couple of cross rails along the longer rails,

or option 2 you could always build two bases and join together.
Thanks Al, I will add two more cross rails.
I think I would add some more support in the middle also, the only thing I could see wrong with making an 8 ft table top is the mess you will be able to make before you have to stop what your doing and clean the bench off
You guys are making me rethink my plans. So bigger isn't better when it comes to a workbench! I guess all of you are working on a 4foot bench. Thanks for setting me straight.
Will, bigger isn't always bad, depends on your available space. See my bench below, it's 65" x 62". If you have the room and you built it to the height of your table saw you could use it as a out-feed table just like I did, table saw is not in the picture it's too far right to see.

see the attached, this is what i designed in google sketch and built it

This is becoming more then a bench it's an adventure. I'm getting a lot of great ideas. Like making the bench the same height as your table saw. DM bench frame looks like a nice start. I'm going to taking my time before I start this project and try to get all my options. When i do make it will post my picture. Thanks all, great forum.
will I was just joking about an 8ft workbench mine is 86'' long and I know what kinda mess I can make, but cleaning up is half the fun. if you have the room go for it
I have a photo of my bench on this site as a project, it is 3 metres long (about 9 foot), it is that length because that is what fits in between my shed frames, and because I got a piece of bowling alley lane very cheaply to use as a top. I had started off with a four foot bench frame as per kreg plans, with ply as a top. When I bought the piece of bowling lane, I simply added four more stretchers and two more legs to one end of the existing frame, effectively doubling its length. You can never have enough bench space, I reckon!
I think what I will do is build 2 benches. Then you can stand them together end to end or side to side as necessary and also use independently when needed.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
