I have found an easy way to fit the plug,s , I put an 80 grit belt on my table top belt sander , then I sand about 1/4 " off the tapered end of the plug that goes in the hole first , try to keep the same taper !! Can do about 50 plugs in 15 minutes !! Very little sanding needed when you install them , work,s for me , JIM !!
Another way to cut off Kreg pocket hole wood plugs:
One way to cut off excess from Kreg pocket hole wood plugs is to use a multi-tool with a small flush cutting blade, and a thin putty knife. It is a two handed process and the work piece should be clamped or otherwise secured. A very thin putty knife works best, but most putty knives will work if used carefully. The putty knife in this illustration is approximately .3 millimeters thick in the area near the tip. The putty knife is used to protect the work piece during the cutting process. While cutting the multi-tool blade rests on the putty knife and the putty knife acts as a shield and leverage point to help protect the underlying material.
Sorry if I duplicated this message. I am new to the forum. In the picture this is a scrap test piece and the plugs are not glued. The point of the picture is to show how to position the putty knife to protect the work piece. After being cut the plug be can easily be sanded.
