I'm a draftsman/designer, warehouse/parts, IT/techie and dabled in accounting for an electrical contractor in central CA. I guess being a "jack of all trades, master of none" has kept me employed.

Industrial Sales rep for the bast 3 months.  Prior to that i was a communications consultant for a cable-co....in my free time i make hack-job furniture and if i'm lucky, a little whoopy.

I am a retired general contractor, I specialized in remodeling 75-100 year old commercial buiuldings and bringing them up to code. Started as a union carpenters apprentice 40 plus years ago in AZ. When it comes to construction I have done it all, from digging footings by hand to hand fitting built-up hardwood paneling. my current project is finishing our retirement home, Just have the cabinetry and flooring left to complete. My next project is to build and install about 200 bluebird houses on our property (need Im say my wife of 35 years loves bluebirds).

Healthcare IT application specialist. Essentially I try to make computers and healthcare providers play nice together. I love working with my hands but this pays the bills so on free weekends I make sawdust.

 

Completed: Puzzle Bookcase from C&B, Coffee Tbl, WorkBench

 

Next: TV Stand, wife's crafting Tbl, bedend trunk...whatever else that catches my eye in a mag or at the store.

This is really fun to read!

Sadly I don't see too many people my age (30 and under) who thinks this is fun anymore. I got my first taste of wood in Jr High and have wanted to do more ever since. Now that I've got a house and more importantly a garage nothing can stop me! MWUHAHAHA Garages aren't meant for cars anyway.

currently i am a skilled mechanic/boiler operator at a hospital. i have been a carpenter for several years, worked at fenton art glass and lee middleton dolls. i got my bs from ohio university 1991 in industrial technology and two associates 1992 from hocking college in ceramics and materials engineering technologies. have been in shop classes since the seventh grade, about 30 years. i have also restored a 1948 willys cj2a. if you want to know more about me just ask.

By day I am a non degreed Engineering Support Specialist who provides assistance to the design and maintenance engineers for high speed currency processing equipment.  I started working on computers/radars in 1972 when they were loaded with paper tape and punch cards and have continued to educate myself ever since. Anyone remember Sperry Univac??

 

I fell in love with woodworking in high school and haven't stopped since.  I feel extremely lucky that my wife loves the smell of fresh cut wood enough to give me a hug and kiss when I come in from the shop.

This is a great thread. By the way, I'm a professor and researcher at a State University in Baja (master degree in Economics), Mexico and a newbie in the carpenter profession (2 years now). This for me it's like a hobie and a stress relief activity and like somebody of you said before i love the smell of wood and my wife love the small projects that i'm starting to do! Great Community!
