I am in the process of building a bathroom vanity out of oak. I am wondering which screws to use or which woud be better to use Washerhead or the Panhead.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Personally, I prefer the washerhead.  I've had very little success with the Panhead so i don't use them.  However, i also tend to work mostly with plywood....That may make a difference (wood density?)...you might have better luck with them since you're working with Oak and not plywood.

You'll be using the fine thread regardless of which screw you use.

Greg, I agree with geoff I also use the washerhead screws almost exclusivly. I don't think the panhead displaces enought of the wood around the hole.
I love it when you do that

Geoff and Ray, thanks for  your advice. It is solid oak I won't be using any plywood at all. I purchased some wel alot of 6in 3/4 oak  matched tongue and groove oak. I couldn't pass it up its also stained and pre-finished for an unbeleivable price of $300 measured it all up called the local lumber company for a quote on what I purchased and they gave me a price of $2300. Sorry for being long winded but had to tell the story. Would you also recomend glueing also? It's going to be a more or less mission style vanity. Again thank you for your fast input.

Greg

Hi Greg, That didn't sound like you were long winded, It sounded like you were bragging, Way to go that's one hell of a deal

Ray...Yeah I guess it would be bragging. I finally got a deal in my life...lol
It can't hurt to put some glue in the groove before you use the screws to effectively clamp the tongue into the groove. That will give you a very strong bond.
Well I'll have to go with the washer heads people buy my wood work becouse it's strong and it's real wood.

Mike and David, thanks for your response I will be going with the washer heads. This is a very informative forum. Taking on a BIG first project, and this has helped me make a decision.

Thanks.
