building a custom closet and before i begin, ordered both the 1/4" and 5mm jigs to try out.

on plywood, using a slower speed, i get nice, clean holes with very little to no tearout. but the solid wood (pine), on either slow speed or high, i'm getting tearout on the holes. i'm bringing the drill up to speed before going into the wood, like when i use the pocket hole jig.

any suggestions?

UPDATE: tried clamping 1/4" birch plywood between the jig and pine. same result. STILL tearout, on both hi and low speed. this is the brand new, brad point bit that comes with the jig. oddly enough, the holes thru the 1/4" ply come out clean -- on both sides.

That's pine for you. It's rarely suitable for finish work. My corded drills spin a lot faster than my cordless ones. Maybe that would help. Also, remember to go slow and let the tool do the work. The faster you plunge in, the messier things tend to be.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
