Kreg Owners' Community

Hello Everyone in Kreg Jig Land.

I was wondering what types of Finishes are good for some Drawers that I am putting together for my Bathroom Vanity.
I know I could Poly them but was looking for something more the Factory Look....if you know what I mean.

Let me know your thoughts .... Please......
Thanks in Advance.

Yes, this will be very helpful....Thank You Phillip.

I am using Birch Wood 1/2" for the SIdes and 3/4" for the Fronts, and using the kreg Jig for assembly.

I was hoping to use a Clear Finish on the Drawers, we do have a Shermin Williams around us as well, so maybe I'll take a piece to them today and see what they say.

and yes, all I have is a brush for the application to the drawers, I just didn't want to leave them unprotected from the elements or Momma.....

Thanks Again,
Glenn
Hello Again Phillip,

no you didn't offend me in the least, I love the input.
you can never have to many options.

and I also agree with you on the Quality of Work.

I try my best to pay attention to the finest details, .... always.
because it pays off in the long run for sure.

I actually took your advise and went down to Sherman Williams today, unfortunately they didn't have much input but they had a few products that I could choose from.

I picked up a can of Minwax Polycrylic.... Water based....but it doesn't yellow over time.. first time using this one.

Even though I haven't had good luck with water based poly before, but this should be a light duty use (only for the Drawers)
I'll have to send some picks once I get close to finishing.

Take Care and
Again thanks for the feedback,

Best Regards,
Glenn

I hope I wasn't offending you about the brush. I was trying to get to the idea that not everyone had the same application possibilities. I know a couple of guys that have the Turbinaire HVLP units, nice but not everyone has the cash for $1000 finish unit. I have the basics and leave it at that. As you might guess, finishing is not my favorite activity. James makes the point about moisture and I agree. On my cabinets I left no spot unfinished. Backs, inside, underside, I left no surface uncoated. A good oil base primer works good against the wall, or you can use a clear finish two coats. A small job and a couple of rattle cans of clear and no one is the wiser, at least I'll never tell. I figure better safe than sorry.

I bought this house 25 years ago. Now that I have it paid off, it needs repairs. So I am remodeling everywhere. At 60 years old I am having to do work that I wish the other owner had done right the first time. My point is that you never know what is ahead. I never figured that I might finish my life in this house. I certainly do not want to be making repairs at 85 which is another 25 years down the road. Do it right, do it well, use caution, use the best materials you can afford, and your options for the future are better, because you never know what you will have to live with.

I used Min Wax Polycrylic over white pickled kitchen cabinets about 8 or 9 years ago, and they sitll look fine. It does not yellow like oil based poly, and are durable due to the acrylic in the formula. The finish looks just as it did then.
Hello Robert,

That's the good news I was looking for.

Thank You So Much...

Take Care,
Glenn
