<p>It looks to be either knotty pine or possibly knotty alder. I built an arched top chest using knotty alder and the wood has similar appearances. </p>

<p>ps. Alder, although classified as a hard wood is also very soft and the fingernail test wouldn't help as it dents easily, like pine. </p>
