Kreg Owners' Community

just bought the kreg jig late last month. startrd a project and quickly ran out the 10 screws that came with the unit. i live in a smallish town in nothern michigan and we are lucky to have a Lowe's.

I have 2 questions: what is the most commonly used size of screw 2 1/2", 1 1/2", etc. and is there a good source online to purchase these screws be it kreg screws of another "brand".

The screw sizes you need should be laid out in the Quick Start Guide that came with your Kreg Jig.
The easiest place to buy your screws, in my opinion, is from Amazon. They have just about every SKU Kreg sells... so whether you just want 50 screws, or of you want a box of 5000, Amazon has it.

Lowe's sells them, Menards sells them, Woodcraft, Rockler, etc.

Good luck!
Try Lee Valley tools
I use a lot of 1-by (3/4”) as do a lot of projects I see on this site. So 1 ¼” screws (fine and coarse) are a mainstay. (and 2 1/2" for the 2 by as James says)

I have not tried off-brand screws, but the Kreg screws are really sharp (self-tap easily) and don’t shear even in oak. - and, no, I am not a Kreg rep ;)
I have just started using the Kreg Jig as well and all I have used so far is the 1-1/4" screws..... both Coarse and FIne.
Coarse for the Pine and Fine for the Oak parts of my Vanity cabinet.

Best Price I found so far is Lowes for the 100 pc. pack at $4.00 Per Pack, and it's convenient.... no shipping.

If you have a few projects to build then I suggest Amazon.com...
I found a 1000 pc. pack for $22 or $23.00
which is a huge savings .... about 25 Percent after Shipping and if you don't mind waiting, sometimes they'll ship for FREE....which would equal a 50 Percent discount compared to Lowes.

Good Luck,
Glenn
I too mostly use 1 1/4, it depends on the size wood as stated earlier. I used to wrong size once without thinking and the screw went right through the other side. :)
The cheapest place I found was www.coastaltool.com You can get a 1000 1.25 for 18.50
I just ordered 1000 coarse and 1000 fine 1.25" screws today from www.coastaltool.com Even with shipping added to the $18.50 p/box price, they were still cheaper per screw than buying from Amazon. And, as luck would have it, Amazon was out of the fine threads anyway.
