Hi Steven - I've found, especially on colors/shades I don't use very often that the pigments tend to compact pretty tightly on the bottom of the can. Gotta get 'em up with a stick. Especially new cans as you have no idea how long they have been shelved. If it's only been a week or so since I used it, a quick shake will suffice.

yes i usually grab a piece of scrap, wipe it off and use that to stir the stain, nice to see someone else from ohio.

im not sure, but i dont think so. the pigments in stain settle to the bottom and shaking, espically gently wont mix the stain very well. i would stir the stain to mix the pigments with the carrier solution. try it both ways and let all of us know.
