Hey woody,if your drilling through the 2x4. Into 3/4 stock the set up should be pretty easy. Depending on which jig you have, there should be a built in guide on either side of the clamp lever, set the stop collar on the drill bit and lay them into the guide.move the drill bit and collar to the thickness and tighten down. That should take care of it,I would try a couple pieces of scrap wood first just to be sure your happy with it

Woody,

Are you working with the Kreg Jig K4? If so, you can access the K4 Quick-Start Guide here: http://www.kregtool.com/prodimages/kregjigquickstarguide.pdf.
You will need to choose a screw based on the material thickness. As you can see in the above chart, a 2x4 is 1-1/2" thick.
To join your 2x4 material that is 1-1/2" thick, you will need to use a 2-1/2" (64mm) screw. Then, you will need to set your Kreg Jig for the 1-1/2" marking. Feel free to save the chart above for future reference.

ok but I am screwing from a 1 1/2" into a 3/4" board??

You could drill through your 1-1/2" board into your 3/4" board, or vice-versa. It all depends on what you're building and how you want the final project to look. Please contact the Kreg Customer Service Team by phone at 800.447.8638 or by email at CustomerService@KregTool.com. Once they have the specifics of your project, they will be able to best advise you on how to proceed.
