I need to join 6 ft of maple butcher block to a 2 ft section using glue and pocket screws. The butcher block is 1.5" thick. I'm mking a new workbench.

I know the guide calls for a 2.5" screw, but since this is hardwood, can I get away with using a coarse thread ?  ( Doesn't look like a fine thread is available in that length). Any advice wood be appreciated

Hi Lee,

The course screws should work fine, Just make sure you don't overdrive them and strip the holes. The glue will do a lot of the work holding the sections together. It's stronger than we realize.  Also make sure you use enough pocket holes. Every 6 inches should suffice and when you move it to its final resting place, support the joint. Once it's in place, you'll have nothing to worry about.
