saw shaft for dado blade

 I have a sears craftsman cabinet saw read in woodworkin mag some time back that you could get a longer shaft to use dado blades with.Having a hard time finding one.Any Ideas?I contacted sears and they said duh .

Model number of the saw would be nice info. Is that  a direct drive, belt drive (shudder) cable drive? Odds are, if it wont take a dado set now, the motor isn't big enough to turn one.

Hi Terry - Now I'm puzzled. I did some checking on some of the other forums and it seems that it will take a 13/16" dado stack.... Anything in your owners manual that says it won't take a dado?

I cant beleave that the cabinet saw dont take staked dadoes You might have to eliminate the washer at the end like IO do on my Craftsman contractor saw.With the washer I could only get two turns of locking nut with out I get around 3-1/2 turns

When I use a dado blade with my Craftsman Table saw, I can't use the beveled washer that I normally use for saw blades, but do have enough threads left to tighten the arbor nut down well.

I'd discourage the use of an ''add-on'' extension on the table saw blade shaft.

There's a reason for the OEM to make a limited threaded length.

The saw may not be designed to accommodate an extension.

1. There is a liability issue, with an extension---if the extension should come loose, it could result in damage to the machine or injury to person(s).  

The mass of all those blades turning at a high speed, when loosening, could result in extreme damage. 

Thread engagement, of the nut onto the shaft, there should be a min of 2 threads exposed beyond the nut, after the blade is installed.

That's a good point.  I doubt if I should even be using that adjustable dado in my contractor saw.

Those extensions they sell are mainly  for table top saws,I used to have one until I upgraded. Just dont use the washer and you will be fine

That is what mine ends up with and little more  Thats all you need .Ive done this for couple two years and so far ever had a problem and besides when blade is spinning it is also holding its thread position from loosening up on you..BE SAFE .IO also have adjustable blade that I have never used but see no harm in it. I no Jay uses one all time and look at his magnificent work.
