Router Table

I am a beginner when it comes to woodwork. I've made garage cabinets, shelving units, a workbench etc. but I have never made any furniture but I would love to. My wife wants a table for our entry hall with some drawers and cabinet doors, but she hasn't found anything that resembles what she wants (plus the area we have is kind of an awkward space so it needs to be a specific size). All of my projects have been for the garage or outside so this will be my first project for inside the house. From what I read, a router table makes raised panels a lot easier, I have a router but not a table. What are some other uses for a router table?
