HI Steve, that's an adapter plate so you can use the Porter Cable style (1-3/16") guide bushings. I find guide bushings are very useful and I keep that item on the plunge base.<br></br><br></br><cite>Steve Bennett said:</cite>

I have the same model. Now are you talking about the round metal piece in the center of the plastic base? I took that off and now I can raise the bit and did a test piece and got just what I wanted, a nice smooth round over. So if that was what you where saying, Please tell me what that piece is for? The instructions that came with this tool were sorely lacking

I don't have that router Steve but with mine, there are two bases that come with it. 1 has a larger opening for bits with a larger head. The base is changed depending on the size of the bit.

Hi Steve - what model Hitachi do you have? I have the M12VC, 2 1/4hp job. Can you post a picture? A 3/8 roundover should only be about 1 1/4 in diameter so if the base isn't centered, you could be hitting the removable bushing adapter. Problem I have with that is my adapter is metal. Photo would definately help here.
