Hi bill have you tried T .CUT its a car paint restorer ,and pretty good at getting light rust of with some elbow grease.Or you could try some wet and dry sandpaper and a little water. I would coat the top with a machine wax when done ,one of those non staining products hope this helps .Mick.

Good Morning Bill;

What Michael suggested probably works but I'm not sure how easy it will be to find that product where you are. I studied and apprenticed for 3 years as a machinist also worked for a year as a machine operator and then a set up man at Rockwell Delta making woodworking tools in the early 70's so I have dealt with a lot of rusty cast iron.

The easiest way to remove rust is to use WD40 poured or sprayed on then take one of the green kitchen scouring pads and scrub away once its is clean take a rag and dry it let it sit for a day or to so the WD40 evaporates then do as Michael has said wax it then you should be all right.

Let us know how you make out.

Jeff

    thank you guys I"ll try the wd40

Thanks Bill;

One other thing if you need to level or smooth out a cast iron surface such as your in feed or out feed table on your jointer or the table saw top this can be done also with WD40 to create a slurry and you use a brand new coarse honing stone the large the better and rub it back and forth this is called lapping. On a large surface you go in one direction then cross the other direction this will create a perfect smooth and level surface, you only need to do this if the surface is extremely pitted. Some times I buy old hand planes at junk shops and they are cast steel and I will lap the bed true.

Let us know how it goes

Jeff

Bill

WD40 and wire wool work well for me. John

Bill;

How did you make out is your jointer rust free and all shined up?

Jeff

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
