Kreg Owners' Community

I am not terribly new to woodworking...but I am new here.
I have the Kreg K3 setup and think it is a nice little system.

I have run into a problem however and need some advice.
I am building a TV cabinet. It is all in Quartersawn Red Oak.
I need to build some doors and I am trying to decide between the Kreg and a more traditional system.
One major consideration is the holes left behind. The holes will be on the back of the doors..but still fairly visible when a door is opened.

I have found oak plugs...but not Red Oak plugs.
Red oak is not an unusual wood and it seems like Kreg has covered the wood types pretty well.
I am not staining this wood. I will only be using Tung Oil.

How do I get the plugs to match my wood? I have to think that this problem has come up before.

Hi Michael you can use a 3/8 plug cutter in the drill press set at an angle
Hmmmmmm..
That is something I had not considered..and then I can also not only match the wood..but the plugs can be from the same wood.

Good Idea

I suppose all I would have to do then is use a Japanese pull saw to cut off the excess.
I use a router with a straight cutting bit and a scrap piece of 3/4" plywood. Just set the bit so that it is about a 11/16 of inch and then rout them some what flush and then finish with a sander or sand paper
can you find a red oak dowell if so go to my video and make your own plugs
