anyone used that deck jig with soft redwood and/or cedar decking? how about with very old dry redwood and/or cedar decking???
....heard there were issues by some people.... The Kreg tech people have made some good suggestions when using it, but it would be nice to hear from purchasers of the deck jig to get their own experiences.

I used the jig with pressure treated fir, which was pretty soft. Had no problems. I've since read that the Kreg folks don't recommend the jig for PT or softwood projects, but I am still not sure why.
One of the big tips with using the jig (or any of the Kreg drill jigs) is to let your drill come up to speed before contacting the wood, and don't use too much pressure; that will prevent tearing up the hole.
Derek how long ago did you use the jig with the pressure treated fir and have you looked closely to see if there is any loosening or the screws now? I would appreciate knowing what you find.
thanks

Hi Jim;
The deck was built in the summer of 2012; i posted some pictures of it here. I live in Newfoundland, Canada, in a pretty harsh climate (lots of rain, snow, wind, sleet, sometimes all in the same day). I went over the deck this summer to see whether anything had moved around, and also to see if there seemed to be any water collecting in the screw holes, and everything was fine.
One thing I was careful about was not over-driving the screws, since I didn't want to tear up the holes. Actually I used the deck jib for the seats on the benches as well. I love having the clean surface with no screw holes.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
