Kreg Owners' Community

I am planning on making a bunch of deck/outside furniture projects soon out of Cedar.  Is that conducive to using the Kreg Jig screws on it and should they be the blue coated ones?  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  Two pics attached of one of the projects and of the type of Cedar I want to use.

Hi Jan.

The blue-kote screws are the ones Kreg suggests for anything outside.  You may also want to look into their deck screws, that I believe are stainless, but they sell them by the bucket.

Kreg Pocket-Hole Screw Qualities

Composition:

Zinc screws are recommended for a wide variety of indoor projects where moisture is not a concern.

Blue-Kote™ screws are the best choice for damp or wet applications, and with treated lumber.

Stainless screws are designed for use in extreme applications that are exposed to corrosive elements.

Jan,

Since you plan to use cedar, and cedar is a soft wood,

I'd suggest making some test pieces---

so as to insure you'll get a satisfactory joined member with adequate torque,

to achieve a tight butted joint.

Hi Jan , have just finished a glider made out of knotty Cedar and used the blue coated  screws  and they should work Ok for your project,s , nice looking patio furniture , well done , JIM !!!

Hi Jan.  Like James said, Blue-Kote™ Pocket-Hole Screws are the perfect choice for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor projects.  They provide three anti-corrosion layers, rust-resistance up to 400% greater than zinc-plated screws, and work with pressure-treated material.  They're available in a variety of sizes, thread options, head styles, and quantities to meet your project needs.  Learn more here: https://www.kregtool.com/store/c20/kreg-jigreg-screws/p301/blue-kot....
