Plugs For 2x4's

I just built this desk this past week, wanted to fill the pocket holes, but the 3/8" dowel plugs were not big enough or long enough for the holes in the 2x4's, so I finished the project w/o plugging the holes, it's a farmhouse design so not that big of a deal. But what can I do for future projects? I am confused. Thank You

Unfortunately the plugs are designed to be used with material that is 3/4" - 1 1/4". If working with 1 1/2" material you can purchase some 3/8" dowels and create your own plugs. This would allow you to set them to the correct depth needed for your material.

OR ... the Kreg Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter with the "to-be-purchased separately" Custom Plug Cutting Bit - HD bit can make plugs for the HD pocket holes.

Thanks for the reply.....3/8" dowel rod is too small of diameter for my holes.....that's what I bought to find out they don't work.....

Dan-- I've found not all dowels are the same diameter in the bin. I drill a scrap & take it with me to make test fits. Not an every time answer to your problem but it works more often than not. Also I've never mic'ed a step drill bit to see the true diameter.
