My Kreg 5 won't clamp my work pc

It seems to be broken.. I'm so sad.. I love this thing.. I'm a woodworking Grandma and I am building benches for my Churches pumpkin patch for the school children to sit on.. I have lots to do and My Kreg 5 won't work.. When ever I go to clamp my 2x4 it doesn't grab or if it does seems to be to tight and when I lower the handle it makes a horrible popping noise and pc is loose again. I can't afford to order a new one.. I think mine is about 2 years old. I've never had this problem in the past. I just don't know what to do.. Can anyone help me?
