Kreg Owners' Community

Of all the places in my marriage that is not 50-50, I would say the garage tops the list. How does one build when they don't have a place of their own. It turns out, I am the DIY nut in the house. I grew up the oldest of three girls, no brothers. Spent tons of time watching my dad work away at his profession as a cabinet maker. One Christmas I was given my very own tool box with legit kid size tools (that was the best). When I finally purchased my Kreg jig I felt that my time to build had arrived. Except the garage/workshop is my husband's domain, the man cave with pool table, sotre house to all things little league baseball and home to the world's largest smoker/bbq pit. Not easy to work in this space. With some careful stacking and shelves in just the right places, it works for my needs. It could use better lighting, a dust collection system, maybe even air conditioning (as living in Texas is hot 99% of the year). I completed my first project this past weekend. A desk for my daughter's room. Its 6ft long and 24" deep. She wanted a shallow depth and the plans on Ana White's website fit perfectly. Looking back, I would have extra countersink bits on hand as there are two permanently embedded somewhere in the legs. My paint selection will be of a better quality. Went cheap on paint and took a ridiculous amount of time getting good coverage (base paint and primer in one, yeah right). And lastly, I wish I had known before putting the piece for the top together that they need to be checked for square when placed side by side way before the finished product is about to be set in place. Nevertheless, I've conquered my first project and now on to the desk I'd like to build for my craft room extraordinaire! With beautiful edges on the desk and matching shelves the soon to be next addition of a router would be the cherry on top of my DIY journey. For now, I'm going to pack away all my things so that my husband can have his space back until I invade it again.
