I am building a couple of Wood Magazine on-the-go children's lap desks designed after the Thomas Jefferson lap desk. It calls for screws and plugs for the carcase joinery but it also calls for 1/2 inch pine to keep the desk light. I planed down some maple for the sides for increased strength and will use pine for the top. However with 1/2" material I feel the screw/plug combination will not work with such thin stock and will potentially break out. I have been waiting to use my micro jig and this is the perfect application. I was initially going to put the pockets on the inside of the desk but it would look really nice if I used some contrasting plugs for the outside - such as cherry.
Now for my question - where can I get the mirco plugs which were to come out November 15, 2010. The Kreg site states that they are currently unavailable.
I would attach a copy of the plans but they are probably copyrighted. So I will just attach a pix of the original Jefferson Desk - see attachment.
