I seem to always have to do some trial and error, especially error, to determine the proper jig height setting and screw length for miters.  I have similar problems with edge joining.  Anybody have a simple approach or formula?

I'm trying to make glass-inset doors for some barrister book cases. I've chosen to miter the corners, but need the joint strenth of pocket joinery. I finally saw a picture of the pocket drilled at right angles to the joint. Now comes figuring out a jig to get it done. I don't know what to do with narrow stock (1 1/2" or less). These pockets are made to be at right angles to 90 degree joints. what if the joint is greater/smaller than 90 degrees??
Hi Fred, I did have the same problem, however, I found a way that works for me. I take the piece with the angle cut, put it in the jig to the side of one of the drill bushings. I the lower the drill bit into the bushing and eyeball it next to the angle cut. then I set my drill collar so the drill does not drill into the angle cut. then I eyball the sixe screw that i will use to see if it will not go through the wood.
I don't know it this helps you out any, but it works for me.
