Anyone have advice for joining a piece of 3/4 oak to a piece of oak 1-5/8"x1-5/8"? I need a fine thread screw, but it seems that the fine thread #8 1-1/4" length kreg offers is too small to get a good bite into my 1-5/8" oak. It also seems that there is a 1-1/2" #7 fine thread screw but I still don't think it is long enough, and it is a narrower diameter too which isn't ideal. Any advice would be appreciated.

I should clarify that it is 3/4" solid oak and 1-5/8" solid oak.

I would think it would depend on the size of the pieces you are attaching together and which pieces have the pocket holes in them. I just built a table and the legs were 3 1/2" and I attahed 3/4" aprons. I used two pocket holes on the ends of each apron with 1 1/2" screws and have had no issues. I also braced each corner with 3/4". Both pieces were red oak. If you can be more specific to your application that might help.

Rick R, I plan on doing this plan...

There are instances where the 3/4 solid oak gets joined to the 1-5/8" legs as well as 3/4" plywood to thec1-5/8" legs.

There will be no problems using the recommended 1 1/4" screws as long as your jig is set up correctly.
