Hi friends, Got a question: I have the K2000 Kreg Pocket Hole jig and my wife graced me with the Kreg HD for my birthday. Can the HD be placed in the K2000 or will I have to invest in a K4 or K5 to be able to use it on my bench and not just alone clamped to the wood?

Hi Tim and all. Sorry it has taken a couple of days to chime in. Finally found my way back to my desk. (I'd rather be out in the shop, but wasn't there either. At least I was working on some project designs, though--still not bad!)

Hi Tim and all. Sorry it has taken a couple of days to chime in. Finally found my way back to my desk. (I'd rather be out in the shop, but wasn't there either. At least I was working on some project designs, though--still not bad!)

One of the biggest challenges we face is getting retailers to stock a full selection of accessories, especially screws. The big box stores don't always have everything, though we're working hard with the biggies right now to try to get them to fill out their Kreg lines. As was mentioned before, Menard's keeps a good selection of things like the HD if you're in the upper Midwest where that chain is located.

I'd also suggest that you try the "Shop Local" dealer locator on kregtool.com. Just enter your zip code to get a listing of dealers in your area. You'll notice that we recently divided the list into "full line" and "authorized" dealers. The full line dealers, as the name implies, stock a complete Kreg selection.

Of course, mail order is an option, as well, depending on how you feel about mail order vs. buying local.

All that being said, the HD is really designed for working with 2x material and larger, especially dimensional lumber and cedar, so the coarse threads are appropriate for those materials. If you're building with thick stock for indoor use--especially hardwoods--your conventional Kreg jig will work great. Admittedly, we don't offer fine-thread in the longest lengths of conventional Kreg screws. Because you're sinking the screws in so far from the surface, though, in our tests we find the risk of splitting to be low. As mentioned in previous posts, a screw lube of your choosing can definitely help in these situations.

So, we're sorry you're having some troubles finding HD screws. We push our dealers to support the products, but we, of course, can't force them to buy. We always have products available direct, and other reliable sources have them available for order, as well (Woodcraft, Rockler, Amazon, etc.) Big box stores that carry Kreg should also be able to get any of our products via special order.

I love he HD for building with 2x stock and for outdoor projects with cedar or treated wood, but for thick-wood projects other than these, I still rely on my Kreg Jig and longer screws.

I hope this helps!

Tim,

I'd go with the HD jig---its a great tool, for fastening 2x stock, for HD joining.

A acquaintance bought one, after he saw what I accomplished, joining 2x stock, using the pocket hole system.

He was impressed with the ease of use and assembly.

hex washer head style---

drove them in with an impact driver.

One can build some serious structures, with these screws.

(I prefer a hex head for driving these type screw. Hex head will provide a more positive engagement vs a recessed sq head).

Sure beats swinging a 26oz framing hammer, and potentially splitting the wood, or using a HD palm nailer.

Worked for me.

BTW---the HD Kreg screws are available thru Amazon or Rockler---$20/ 125ct.

Ken,

I am with you on the bigger stock.....I just thought this might be better than using the normal Kreg jig and screws and maybe some biscuits to attach some 5/4 maple skirt boards to some 5 1/2" maple posts. This crazy contraption will have a douglas fir top that is double tongue and grooved self supporting flooring 2" thick. There will be a bottom shelf made of maple as well.....that will help stiffen it up and hold it together. Hey!!!! Just like the rest of us I saw a reason to…

I'm sure it was but I could not get any screws at all, I wanted course thread and i have even called around looking for some and have had no luck other that to order them from some company out of state. it should not be that way and it is not Kreg's fault. it is the ones who order merchandice that do not know what they are doing. i have thought about returning it but held off as I am sure one of these days someone here in this town will wake up and order them.

Ken Darga…
