On the subject of table saws...Consider (as I am) the table saw put out by "Saw Stop".  I couldn't believe it!!!  If cutting a board or hardwood and your finger\hand got in the way and touched the blade...the blade retracts itself leaving your fingers attached to your hand.  Go to youtube.com and look it up. You will be surprised.  The cost on this table saw is $2000 and up...Now if the blade retracts it cost about $60 to replace the mechanism...BUT YOU KEEP YOUR FINGERS INTACT...You will pay more than that for some table saws.  I'm praying that soon I can upgrade to get one for my shop!  Another cabinet shop I know of has two...and they rave about them.  Safety is another issue that is important to pass on!

I've seen that retracting saw on youtube.  Quite cool!

I guess that I am an old school carpenter.  I have a nice Circular Saw, but I prefer to use my Japanese Hand Saws. I have a nice Orbital Sander, but prefer using a Sanding Block and a Cabinet Scraper.  I have my father's Bits and Brace Drills, but I prefer my Cordless Drill for most projects.

The Japanese Hand Saws are really nice---

they cut straighter and more accurate than the western style saw.

For my hand sawing tasks, that's all I use.

I've learned to rip the width of a 2x4 x 4ft lengthwise.

A fun task to undertake.

Hi my name is Mike and i live in Ontario .I've always tinkered with wood projects but now that im retired i do it to keep me out of trouble (lol). I started using the kreg single about 2 years ago and find it a big time saver and make for hiding the screws nice and easy. My next one will be a double.

Its abundant with a massive amount of information and there is always a member keen to assist with advice, guidance and interesting common interest activities.

When its snowing or the weather is not suited to practical woodworking activities  you can educate yourself, refresh your skills or just seek inspiration from others work, and there is again a very diverse amount of projects to enjoy and learn about.
