Kreg Owners' Community

How many people have drilled THROUGH their KREG jig on the first use?

Just wondering how many people have drilled through the bottom of the kreg jig by forgetting to set the piece depth on the jig?

Count me in as one of those people.

(Drill sound)

"Hmmm, what is with the BLUE wood shavings?

Odd - let me drill the second hole and see if the same thing happens....

(Drill sound)

Wow, it did it again....

D'OH!"

First let me “ APOLOGIES “ to everyone in the Kreg jig community I know my spelling sucks but Im working on it but in my defines a very strong math back ground and a strong back made a living .

And ya Joe should have let her spell check it but she just started head start here .And here’s a pic of one of my girls at state 1st place for those who think I’m blowing smoke and she used a Kreg jig to build her vanity and we got the Blue Ribbons on the wall.First, the apology is all mine, I didn't realize a little kidding would be so offensive to so many.  Also, I NEVER doubt a word you said about your daughters , grand-daughters or any other.  I'm absolutely sure your are very very proud of each of them, as well you should be.  I could only wish that my children would have let me teach them as you have so elegantly taught yours.

However, as I recall, the post was about drilling holes in our Kreg jigs, not about talent, good, bad or indifferent.  I told you i was only kidding you, and went on to say that heck yeah, I drilled holes in mine, in fact, more than once, that's how good I am.  And I will certainly try the nickel trick, it makes a lot of sense.
And thanks to Joe Boller, I even learned what a "rule of thum" is. I'm 63, been woodworking for 40 years, built everything from cabinets to bed post and I'm still learning.

And Joe I meet nothing by it on your part I though it was funny my self but like my grand father always said it take’s a bigger man to admit when he is wrong Im the one in the wrong. But like the girls say I need to spend a little more time learning than out in the wood shop.

Ditto, David.  And your little Princess is certainly Queen of the band saw, you can't buy legs that look better.

I managed to do it the other day on my K-4.  Was drilling 1 1/2" wood to frame a wall and helper reduced it down to fit in case at the end of the day.  Pulled it out the next day thinking nothing has changed and I managed to drill two holes in.   Cost $21 for base and shipping from Kreg.  I wish they would make the clamp open wide enough 3 1/2" so I can turn a 2 x 4 sideways in the jig otherwise I love the tool.  Well maybe the clamp in front instead of the rear would be nice for plywood.

never even thought about it until i read the post yesterday ,then today in the shop building my first set of cabinets ......blue shavings

Hi Mark - Fairly common to get blue shavings off a new jig first time it's used. Flashing from the molding process doesn't always clean off and hangs in the bit path. Not a problem, they clear out after a few holes. It's the ones where you remove the stock and there are 3/8" holes in the jig that p*** ya off.

First use no.

At some point though after working with 1.5" thick material I switched to 3/4"...well I switched the jig to 3/4" but forgot to move the collar on the bit. I only drilled one hole...now that I think about it I should have just ran the bit down the other two holes so if anyone looked at my jig they would think the holes were designed in.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
