I've looked at and am considering getting one of the small, hand-held saws to use with lighter projects, smaller wood, etc.  In particular I've seen the Rockwell Versacut.  Anyone used it?  If so, what's your experience, both good and bad.  Don't want to invest too much in a limited application tool if it won't hold up.

Looks like a nice tool, but a bit pricy, but it will not cut a 2x4 in one pass.  I would check out Roto-Zip, Dremel, etc.   Even Harbor Freight and there is one close to you on SH6 in Sugar Land.

Have you investigated the oscillating tools?  I have 2 Fein Multimasters and a Harbor Freight - amazing what they can do.  I can plunge cut 2x4s, and make a straight cut in sheet goods faster and cleaner than a hand saw.

HF gets a bad name because of the Chinese tools, but with the prices, they can be replaced many times for less than a top-of-the-line tool.  If you are not going to subject them to everyday / all day use they work fine.

Thanks Doug and William for the replies.  I appreciate it.

I'm still looking but, since I don't have a particular need right now, I'll just keep looking.

I had not thought about the small blades on the Versacut.  That's a good point.

I have considered one of them too.  wish I knew more about them.

I just got a rockwell versacut and a multi tool for christmas but have not had a chance to use them. Have a couple of flooring project to do so will give feedback when I get to use them.
