Having trouble lining up the jig in the right spot

Hi everyone:  I'm using the Kreg for hobby projects; I've made a few things but haven't used the jig in a long time. Picked it up to join two pieces of wood together, and find I'm having the hardest time lining up the jig! How do you use the Kreg to join two pieces side by side, as in

two pieces of wood that are on the same plane? And how do you line up the jig so that you're drilling the hole in the correct spot? My brain doesn't seem to be working correctly. :-(

1) Set the jig and drill-stop to correct thickness for your material.
2) If you are joining (say) 2 boards, use jig to make pocket-holes in 1 board. Doesn't matter where they go or how many. Make sure the holes are in the back (non-face) of the board.
3) Place both boards face down, edges to be joined touching each other. Clamp the receiving board (no pocket holes) to your bench.
4) Holding the pocketed board firmly against the other, align the ends and drive the screws. To ensure an even surface, at step 3 ensure your face-clamp covers the edge-joint and holds it flush.

Okay, thanks!  That's what I was doing wrong:  I was trying to drill into both boards at once.  I'll try it the way you said - makes sense.  Thanks again.  :-)
