Harbor Freight HLVP Sprayer Question (Model 44677)

When I connect the hose to the turbine and turn it on hot air leaks around the connection.

Is this normal? In looking at the connection I suspect it's ok. Called HF tech support and they didn't know..... Told me to return it. I'd just as soon not have to do that. There is ridges in the connector on the turbine and it would seem that they would allow a small amount of air to escape.
