Hi everybody,
This my first post on the community board and I am looking forward to sharing ideas and seeing what everybody else is doing.
I am working on a project right now from the Woodsmith shop called a tile top table. I purchased some cedar from Lowes that is supposed to be one inch thick. I have been around long enough to know you will get a three quarter inch or so piece. for three quarter thick material Kreg calls for 1 1/4" screws. The issue I am having is my stock is 11/16th of an inch thick and when I use the 1 1/4" screws I get a split piece of wood. I have also been around enough to know to use scrap wood to test things out! Can anybody give me any pointers on what screws I need to use to join this wood? I can't afford to buy several different boxes to see what works best. I appreciate any help anyone can give me as I would like to give the three tables I plan to make to my children for Christmas gifts. Glad to be on board and looking forward to sharing with everyone!

Hey folks,
Thanks for the replies on the screw stripping problem. I tried my 6 volt Craftsman cordless drill on some more scrap and it worked perfectly! Low torque and the low battery probably helped too! I appreciate you all taking the time to help out and give some pointers on the things you have experience with. I have to work this weekend but I will tackle the project in earnest the first of the week.
Thanks again,
Mike

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
