How do you determine the depth of your pocket hole when you are joining two different size boards? Example: I am connecting a 2x6 to a 1x6. And how do you determine the size of the screw when you are using different size boards? I have used my K4 for pocket holes on a lot of projects but I have never used it for two different size boards before.

The depth of the pocket hole determined by the thickness of the pieces you are drilling the hole in. If you are drilling the 2x use 1-1/2" setting. If you are drilling the 1x use the 3/4". The length of the screw is determined by taking the screw size of the thicker board (in your case 1-1/2") referring to the table you need 2-1/2" screw but since one of the pieces is thinner by 3/4" you subtract this from the total length so the screw size will be 1-3/4"

I hope all the math was clear. Wish you the best in your projects.
Thank You Khalid, that is a perfect explanation. I have never used two different size boards when drilling pocket holes so I was at a total loss on this. My Grandson's (I call them my Alien's) and I are making a box car for them to ride and we were stuck half way thru trying to figure this out. Thanks again for all your help and happy building!

I'm glad to hear that you are sharing your DIY passion with your grandchildren. This will build their characters to become capable men in the future. I'm also relief to know that the new generation appreciate some sawdust over those i-machines that keep them quiet and inactive all the time. Good luck Natalie and safe box car driving :)
