Kreg Owners' Community

Hi all,
I have been given a load of scaffolding boards and am hoping to do something quite adventurous with them. In an alcove I would like to create a right angled tv unit similar to the one in the picture.

The one in the picture doesn't look supported in the middle mitered section to me. I was planning on creating one longer run and joining the other section to it in a butt joint using the Kreg system. Would temperature change (moderate as I am in SE England) eventually cause tear out or would the joint be steady enough?

Kreg joints are surprisingly strong and resilient.

When I first got my K4 Master System, I joined a short length of 2x4 to a length of plywood with 2 screws.  I used the joint for a mallet and tried to make it fail.  It stayed tight and strong.

Joining 2 sections end to end is probably not a good idea.  End grain will not hold very well.  If you are joining at the miters, the screw goes into the work piece at least somewhat across the grain.

Temperature changes should not cause too much trouble.  My work bench is joined using Kreg joinery and is in an unheated shop, and has gone through temperature changes from 0 - 52 degrees C, and humidity changes from 35 to 95% rh with no ill effects.

Thank you for your reply. So attaching an end to a side - kind of like a breadboard end -wont hold?

Biscuits always a good option for a invisible joint.
